#atswimtwobirds is filled with layers upon layers upon layers upon more layers of stories. I know that sounds overwhelming and confusing. Trust me here! Somehow the amazing #flannobrien makes it all looks effortless and even cheerful. The best I can describe this book is to compare it as the literary equivalent of falling down the rabbit whole. #obrieninvites the reader to fall down aimlessly down the slippery slope, and you won’t be able to come out the same. Even when #dermottrellis tries to remotely maintain a semblance of a linear or traditional story, O’Brien comes rushing down with his ax. The writer is SO disruptive that even his own creation tries to rebel. You are invited to read and “feel” how stories within stories connect infinitely. You might get frustrated sometimes with the “messy” structure of the novel.
