Atlas by Dung Kai-Cheung Book set in Hong Kong. Reviewed on 2019/07: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzf7SZJg_ig/ This book was mesmerizing and way too complicated at the same time. I understand and appreciate the mysterious and archaic aura that #dungkaicheung aimed at here. However at the times I felt completely lost and wanting to understand what his point was. How to write a scientifically poetic or poetically scientific book? #atlas is a very commendable attempt at using #cartography and #geographicalterms to describe fiction, to find a way to arrive at our imaginary places. As #columbiauniversitypress described, the book does remind you of #manguel#borges #eco and #calvino but only to a certain extent. The text at times feels forced and convoluted. Maybe that’s just the reality when trying to imagine a place such as #hongkong ? #recommended#imaginarymaps #victoria#thearcheologyofanimaginarycity#imaginarycity #maps #freehongkong#weatherheadbooksonasia #mapreading#quasifictional Share this:TwitterFacebookLike this:Like Loading...
