A tale of “amputated stories with unknown endings.” That is how #ImanHumaydanYounesdescribes the lives of these 4 #lebanesewomen in #basinbeirut : Lilian, Warda, Camilia and Maha. Despite the war, despite the suffering, despite the unknown endings, they become #beirut and the city becomes them. I was very impressed with the writer’s powerful skill at portraying vivid imagery which becomes larger than a reality, and a reality which becomes a fantasy or a #dystopiawhich some characters decide to blatantly ignore. Everything is interlinked and intertwined: their voices, the city and the countryside, reality and fantasy, foreign and #lebanese , Muslim and Christian, the blurred realities defining an outside and an inside. At the core and all throughout you have a central story about the impossibility of making sense of a reality without fantasy, without the unreal. #highlyrecommended#lebaneseliterature #interlink#interlinkbooks #imanhumaydan#civilwar #leaving #returning #staying#maxweiss #amputatedstories#beyrouth #بيروت
