Blue bay palace by Nathacha Appanah

It’s always tricky to read two books from the same author back to back. One book inevitable is going to feel more powerful than the other. With these two by #nathachaappanah , #bluebaypalace certainly did suffer from my unconditional love for #tropiquedelaviolence which I reviewed earlier today. It’s good to remember that #appanah is a #journalist as well as writer. I’m saying that because this book does feel journalistic in a way. The characters and the plot seem trapped in a strain of events which once they happen, it all feels read already somewhere else. There is still an angle of relentless and incisive questioning. However this book felt more like an experiment into looking back on where her powerful and exhilarating writing comes from than anything else. So I do want to encourage everyone to check her out in case you haven’t heard from her before. However if you do have an option, I’d much rather go for her later work than this one. #recommendedwriter #mauritius #bluebay#mahebourg #socialclasses #revenge#resorts #tourists #aflamebooks#indiancommunity #luxurioushotel#arrangedmarriage #twodifferentworlds#indianocean #islandlife
