#soseki today, Soseki a 100 years ago and Soseki forever! That’s how I feel about #natsumesoseki . #botchan feels like the #japanese #Meijiversion of #thomasbernhard in a beginning of the 20th century kind of way. Whatever that means!! Hehehehe This book is picaresque, cynical, introspective and hilarious. No wonder it’s still a hit after so many years of its publication. It’s the eternal story of a young #cityboy sent to work to the rural areas of his own country against his will. Although he would argue it’s not his own country. It’s literally another planet. This book was a pleasure to read from beginning to end and it’s indeed a quick read. Although there is no way of sympathizing with anyone here including jealous #teachers , evil #children and insidious neighbors. I still have to say that this was not the best Soseki I’ve read. However it still speaks volumes on the path he so masterfully ignited for other Japanese masters to come after him. #highlyrecommended#teachergonewrong #matsuyama#japaneseliterature #penguinclassics#tokyo #松山市 #shikoku #四国 #夏目漱石 #夏目 #坊っちゃん
