Whether you’re a diehard #orwell fan or a sporadic fan like myself, there is definitely a little bit for everyone in the #burmesedays . A compelling and masterfully crafted ride into the last days of #britishimperialism in #india and more specifically northern #Burma . Perhaps this was a groundbreaking and never-heard-before story back in 1930s when it was first published. However I think for us these days the appeal of this book comes first and foremost in the absorbing and vivid writing style of #georgeorwell which he later so splendidly mastered in #animalfarm and #1984 . #britishcolonialism in both its brutality and spread makes this story an all too familiar tale in so many parts of the world. However I also think Orwell gives the story an universal appeal in its humanity and resilience and on how to sometimes think/act differently, even betray those we are supposed to belong to. #highlyrecommended #harvestbook #harcourtbooks #britishliterature #katha #mandalay #calcutta #rangoon #injustice #racism #burmese
