Let me see if I can properly convey the awesomeness and greatness of this book. Everything I’ve read about #wwii in the Asian and #southeastasia region it’s usually if not solely about the military fronts either in the middle of nowhere or in the sea. It’s not what’s going on here with book. #nolledomanaged to give #Manila in the 40s an urban, psychological and captivating treatment which I’ve usually read for Berlin in the 20s, Paris during the occupation or even London in the 40s. History and humanity collide in Manila through these odd characters with seemingly nothing in common except for one thing. They are all in love, in love with a city victim of so many invasions and colonialism. Something also needs to be said for the skillful and magical use of languages in this book: #tagalogSpanish, Japanese and English.
