I believe I have actually read this book before, maybe a few years ago even. And that happens to me sometimes. The story feels familiar and at a particular moment I realize aha! I have indeed read it before. However I never found that eureka moment here. It feels very familiar but I can’t still tell whether or not I have indeed read this before. And much like myself, the main character in #confessions is aware that he has lived through #wartrauma and personal #tragedies but can’t really tell for certain the details of the who, what, where and when. His #memory voluntarily or not is playing games with him. With the background of the #lebanese #civilwar this feeling of doubt and uncertainty creates an explosive and haunting tale. Because of all the ongoing violence and #chaos you can’t help to think that perhaps the narrator is deliberately choosing #amnesia to find a better excuse for humanity’s own shortcomings and cruelties. #highlyrecommended #jaber #rabeejaber#beirut #lebaneseliterature#arabicliterature #الاعترافات #alItirafat#maronite #جابر #بيروت #beyrouth
