I believe I might have arrived at #darknessatnoon thanks to the recent proliferation of #antitrump book clubs and reading lists. There are clearly some parallels in the book when it comes to #dystopia and vindicative “leaders”. But I think #koestler aimed to go way beyond a particular time period or person. You can’t deny the influence of Koestler’s and other intellectuals’ disenchantment with #communism and the #soviet revolution. What makes this book #timeless is how many times we have been #rubashov how many we have been there. We get involved in ideologies and beliefs and fight #revolutions for them. We fight until we win. And then what? Instead of answers, I think Koestler gives us here a quest for the individual to think for him/herself. The entire book is compelling and skillfully constructed as the #psychological torture it aims to describe. Make sure your copy has the #grammaticalfiction chapter in the back… You will thank me later. #highlyrecommended #arthurkoestler#stalin #revolution #moscow #trial#sonnenfinsternis #dogeatdog #moskau
