So let’s get this #saharalit literary trip started! My first mini review for this month is #elsewherehome by the acclaimed #leilaaboulela . These #shortstoriesseem to transport the reader to a lot of physical places: #khartoum #cairo#london and #aberdeen and #edinburgh . They also aim to transport you to places we are all too familiar with: #dislocation#loneliness and #renewal . Most of the stories seem to speak about creating something #anew and #rebuilding . I was particularly impressed by her ability to connect what we traditionally consider #immigrantstories with feelings, emotions and longings we can all identify with. You don’t need to change your geographical location to feel lost in translation, to aspire to begin all over again or to struggle with how to belong and who you truly are. I was thrilled to finally have read #aboulela . Absolutely #highlyrecommended and I can’t wait to read her storytelling wondrous world again next year. #grovepress#grovepressblackcat #belonging#whoisthestranger
