I always give an initially not so exciting book the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the story will get better after the a few chapters, right? I’m sad to say that this never happened in this book. #everythingbelongstous seems to be a very personal story. I had the impression several times that #yoojingracewuertz was simply writing for or about her family or acquaintances and transposing those personal experiences onto a book. The political and social crisis in #korea becomes a mere few pages instead of the background story the author claims. So we are left with 4 characters which felt simplistic, predictable, dull or simply irritating. With the explosion of more and more outstanding #koreanliterature being translated into English lately, this book can’t withstand the competition. Such a shame because I thought the cover was so cool.
