This book when it was good it was #thomasbernhard good and when it was bad it felt my racist uncle spitting idiotic jokes at a thanksgiving dinner. Making himself a character, throwing a #suicide investigation, #lovestories and a conundrum of literary forms all fighting for attention do not really help here. I wish #miguelsyjuco would have spent way more time in what’s working: Who gets to be a #filipino ? Who claims to be in the business of defining them? And is there any time left for another anti-government protest? There were some initial signs of greatness in this book.
