I think the idea of preserving #oralstories in a rather written format is a commendable thing to do. #kuendenthevaliantsonby #kuengatenzin is a firm step in that direction. #kuenden feels #mythicalformative and larger than life. It reminded me of Chinua #achebe with a hint of #magical #folktales . #tenzinaims to highlight traditions and #bhutanese wisdom particularly from the central region of #bumthangwhere he’s from. However I dare to say that there’s something deep and essential that links this story to the fabric of human experience anywhere. Yes, you can read this story and learn and appreciate the central role of Bhutanese culture. At the same time and the reason why it resonated with Achebe for me, it’s the story’s deep aim for existentialist questions about the #meaningoflife and the willingness to fight back and our instinct of survival.
