It’s so telling to have a quote from #lispector starting this book. I can definitely see strong similarities between these two writers: the predominance of #raw and precipitous stream of feelings. But contrary to Lispector, #qiumiaojin was also pouring into her prose her own struggles with her #sexualorientation With #lastwordsfrommontmartre is clear that #qiu skillfully aimed at expressing and discovering those same feelings though the eyes of #experimentalliterature and literature. Her books are now a breath of fresh air to so many in the #taiwanese and #chinese #lgbt communities struggling with the same issues. Her suicide reminds me of the tragic end of so many people that we have loved and have not survived our society’s refusal to understand love, our families’ lack of courage, our friends’ hurtful words and our internalized hate. I can’t possibly put into the words the greatness of this book. You just have to read it. #highlyrecommended #paris#taipei #taiwan #taiwaneseliterature#epistolary #邱妙津 #lgbtlit #臺北 #nyrb
