I found this book because of #ngugiwathiongo and stayed for the drama. #iwillmarrywheniwant was actually #banned in newly independent #kenya for being too incendiary and questioning. #thiongo and #ngugiwamirii had the audacity to hold the post-independence leaders accountable for the same revolutionary ideals that brought them to power in the first place. The writers also went to prison and had to go into exile eventually. All in all, the #play itself is quite fast and enjoyable. The simplicity of the story is both universal and powerful. Its simplicity makes the so-called powerful men of the world tremble.
