What a missed opportunity here! #lovetown has a great premise to get you excited. However once you actually begin reading, you realize that the result was weak and unappealing. I mean who wouldn’t want to read the stories of two #transvestitesthat lived through #communistpoland ? #michalwitkowski manages to tame and lock all the great expectations in a series of #repetitive vignettes and one homophobic interviewer. This book does zero work at understanding any of the characters and at the end reduces everything to mere cartoons. Considering the rise of #homophobiaand other extremes and hate in #polandand the nostalgia for #communist days, this book does not help at all to shed some light on the complexity of all those factors. I really wonder what #witkowskiwanted to achieve at the end. Maybe it reads better in its original version in #polish ?
