Collections of #shortstories are always a great way to get a glance at a particular writer’s skills at its best and also at its not so great. That’s particularly true when it comes to #merechances by #veronikasimoniti. When it’s good, it’s great. And when it’s not, it feels flat and disengaging. I believe #simoniti aimed at providing a platform for the characters to ramble and talk about what they see while life passes them by. However I did not feel particularly swept away or deeply moved by any of the stories. Are the stories profound and strange as #dalkeyarchivepress claims? Yes, they are. Have I read something more profound and stranger before? Yes, indeed and I will in the future without a doubt. I wish #simoniti would have aimed for only one compelling and powerful story as supposed to bits of great passages buried and randomly peppered in multiple stories. There is apparently a full novel she wrote back in 2014 called #thestoneseed#kamenoseme in #slovenian . I look forward to reading that instead. #slovenianliterature#slovenianliteratureseries #aegeus#thetruestoryofvictorlustig #italy #slovenes#smalltalk #exchangeofideas #raisondetre#languageidentity #collection
