Open your front door, pull up a chair and let the world parade in front of you. Well rather the world according to #miguelstreet where dreams never go anywhere but you will always have the good conversations and the sun. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to begin my #caribbean side of the month than with Mr. #naipaul and the #trinidad of his upbringing. The names and other cultural cues make these seemingly unconnected stories a particular story. These stories are rooted in the #indocaribbean #indiancommunity the writer grew up in. However I’d venture to say that he hits over and over again on something inherently #caribbeanand that is #inertia , delicious and salty inertia. With the passing of hurricanes, the oppressing heat and the recycled masters, you learn one thing very quickly in the Caribbean, things never change so you might as well just drink and love a little. All these stories were vivid, timeless and #vintage like. To the reader already familiar with #vsnaipaul you will find lots of similarities with the writer’s most well known novels. I loved feeling as if I was reunited with some lost #family members from Biswas. To those eager to get to know Naipaul, this book can be an excellent starting point to a world of wonder, dreams of escape and the occasional #calypsosong. #highlyrecommended #portofspain#comingofage #trinidadianliterature#trinidadandtobago #luisstreet#nobelprizeinliterature #wartime
