Who wants to be different? Our inevitable human differences clash with another human need: belonging and wanting to be accepted. We would do anything to be part of a group of people, even if it means denying our inherent differences. #myfellowskin by #erwinmortier touches upon this issue from the perspective of a child growing up in rural northern #belgium or #flanders . In a very smart way, #mortier focuses on the child and his perspective while shedding some light on the other characters: all of us. #anton does not really define himself as #different . He is just being himself. Through the story, Mortier masterfully shows us how those closest to him, most of the time with well-intentioned and lofty goals, make him feel different and emit us with an ultimatum. Either you blend in like all of us had to at one point or another or you will have to be ostracized and leave the nest… #highlyrecommended #belgianliterature #ghent #bruges #flemishliterature #pushkinpress #mijntweedehuid #bildungsroman #comingout #growingup #growingupdifferent #thisisme
