My German Brother by Chico Buarque

Book set in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Reviewed on 2021/06: https://www.instagram.com/p/CQNGfeTLZaU/

#mygermanbrother by #chicobuarque feels like the literary version of a collage. #buarque uses a lot of #memory images and nostalgia to talk about both what took place and also what it could have been. The reader immediately falls down deep down the rabbit hole and there’s no way of knowing where #ciccio currently is or where he’s heading. I personally enjoyed the puzzle Buarque created in the story with pictures and letters to elucidate the mystery. At times, it felt a bit forced and weak. There are so many incredible #brazilian writers that have dealt deeply into the #braziliandictatorship . I think Buarque’s story is a personal kaleidoscopic voyage more than anything else. #brazilianliterature#saopaulo#sãopaulo#fsg#oirmãoalemão#alisonentrekin#berlin#memories#brazilianlit
