Small beauty by Jia Qing

This book is deep in a very #streamofconsciousness#monologue way. #mei is herself in an #existentialist ride and you as the reader get to be carried away as well. #smallbeauty is to some extent related to Little Fish, the book I featured here last night. #jiaqing does not shy away from questions about #grief and dealing with unanswered questions piling on top of each other and with no end in sight or even possible at all. Besides the core here dealing with #genderidentity , this book also touches upon issues of rural vs urban and racial minorities. It’s a tale on how to deal with the fact of being a minority within a minority especially when traumatic and painful moments happen. #qing masterfully brings to the fore the idea of confronting life in every way possible and how much that confronting can become relentless and oppressive. How do you find solace? How do you heal? How to become resilient? #highlyrecommended #canlit#genderqueerlit #canadianliterature#mytranscanadaweek #ontario#dundurn #metonymy#metonymypress #canadatrans#chinesecanadian
