In most of the reviews I read, they always describe #platonov as the most #soviet writer of all times. That’s probably true in two ways. First because he was as prolific as censored in the #sovietunion And also because he aims at providing a literary picture of how vast geographically as well as culturally the country was. #soul is the perfect example of that. The novellas in this book present windows into Soviet #turkmenistan an area almost untouched by the #russian and soviet mentality, immersed in its own local cultures and histories and with #persianand Chinese influences. All of that and more come to transpire in these #masterpieces #nyrb does a great job at putting these stories together and emphasizing their themes of music, nature and spirituality. Personally I think #thereturn is the most accomplished of all of them.
