I see the name of #chingizaitmatov and I just have to read. I usually read him to learn more about the pre-soviet and #soviet #centralasiaregion he knew and grew up with. However in #spottydogrunningalongtheseashore is not about the #kyrgyz people or #issykkul or the #caspiansea . It’s about the #nivkh people, #sakhalin , the #okhotsk sea, the Pacific Ocean. #aitmatov gifted us with a #mythical and formative tale which perennially continues to be formed. Despite what the characters might lead you to believe, this formative story was not forever fully defined at the beginning or in a particular moment. It continues to be fundamentally changed and transformed all the time, whether we want it or not. It reminded me of #chinuaachebe or #derekwalcott . I can’t wait to discover other books by Aitmatov and even for others to be translated from Russian or Kyrgyz. #Айтма́тов #kyrgyzliterature#пегийпесбегущийкраемморя#SpottedDogRunningOnSeashore#сахалин #охо́тскоемо́ре
