WOW! I’m so glad to have read #rokeyasakhawathossain . Two of her most well-known stories are included in this edition. #penguinmodernclassics describes #sultanasdream as a “a feminist science fiction novella set in Ladyland ruled by women” and #padmarag as “espousing women’s personal journeys towards emancipation.” I agree wholeheartedly and in my opinion, there are both #highlyrecommended . #bengaliculture and history, #scifielements and philosophical discussions just come together nicely and perfectly in these two #shortstories . #sultanasdream is no longer than 20 pages and it was published in 1908. Personally, I think this tiny story is incredibly deep and compelling without elaborating much into unnecessary innuendos. How can I explain it? It’s #directtothepoint and #pedagogicalwithout being arrogant or lacking #magical or #fantasy elements for a #sciencefiction story. How does #sakhawat do it? It reminded me very much of another great #bengali writer and humanist, #tagore writing almost at the same time. #bengaliliterature#modernclassics #calcutta #ladyland
