And I’ve reached my final destination: #mogadishu There is no way to read #somalia without #nuruddinfarahAlthough he’s also a very influential writer beyond the country’s borders. #sweetandsourmilk is one of the first books he wrote in the 70s and also the first in a series called #variationsonthethemeofanafricandictatorship ‘First’ seems to be the key word here. The first #murder in the family, the first #silence in the family. #farah takes us into an almost #detective investigation. The question they are trying to elucidate is who killed their #sibling ? But I think the real question is where did our silences begin? The narrative is excessively slow, hopeless and destructive. To Farrah it’s his visionary way of making the reader understand and feel the devastating and fatalistic state of Somalia. I definitely want to read the other two books in the series and see where the story takes me. #recommended#mogadishu #somaliliterature #muqdisho#siblings #graywolfpress #politicaltyranny#investigation #fatalistic #repression
