I’m not going to lie to you. This book took me a while to get into. Instead of complaining and jumping into my own standards, I take it as a welcoming challenge. The slow and simple pace in #thecircleofkarma is a great way to appreciate both #bhutaneseculture and the ultimate message #kunzangchoden wants to convey. Isn’t life a series of cyclical and perennial #setbacks ? And if it’s all ultimately related to #karma what can we possibly do about it? #choden as a woman writing in a traditional and conservative country and region sees these questions through the eyes of a young #woman in #bhutan living #againstallodds . Instead of books and education, she gets abuse and death. Her journey albeit very personal is also shared by so many other #bhutanesethe main character encounters in her #wanderings and relationships. Choden guides you patiently and compellingly thanks to her simple prose. Seemingly simple, I should say. There is a painstakingly weaving of situations and choices (based on karma?) which ultimately paint the web of our lives. It reminded of #racheldequeiroz from Brazil. Under the guise of a clear and plain text, they both manage to give us effortless and accessible powerful #lifestories . #highlyrecommended #zubaanbooks#thimphu #bhutaneseliterature#kalimpong #ཐིམ་ཕུ
