The disobedient wife by Annika Milisic-Stanley

Let’s get my #centralasia weekend started! This is now my third round in this area since opening this IG account in Jan 2017. Yes, it’s difficult to find books set in these countries. No, it’s not impossible. Take a look at my link in bio for other options. When it comes to #thedisobedientwifeby #annikamilisicstanley there is one reason to read this book and that is the city of #dushanbe . The story between #nargis and #harriet is supposed to be the main part here. But to be honest with you, I didn’t feel it at all and I ended up rather being completely immersed in the details and observations #milisicstanleypaints about the city. The two women with their drastically disparate perspectives on life and experiences inevitably view and sense the city in their own ways. Personally I thought #Stanleydid a great job at allowing the reader to take these two visions of the same city and create a window into a Dushanbe which has changed so dramatically and continues to today. At the end, I felt that the #disobedient wife here is actually Dushanbe. A city disobediet to the rules and narratives imposed by so many outsiders and empires. What does she want? What are her aspirations, dreams and wishes? Perhaps this book could be a beginning into that conversation. #recommended #cinnamonpress #tajik#expatlife #nowayout #душанбе#tajikistan #misunderstanding#tajikwomen #twoworlds
