Sometimes a book seems completely impenetrable to me. #thegirlinthephotograph has all the elements I tend to praise in a book: #streamofconsciousness #experimental and a #socialcritique . However I must admit that I remained until the very end as clueless as I was at the beginning of the book. #lygiafagundestelles crafted her story with a primary target: #brazilians themselves. In my humble opinion and despite the always-amazing work of #dalkeyarchivepress and #margaretaneves , there is not much to understand if you fail to have the #brazilian key to unlock the complete story. My hint somehow gets confirmed when you compare the glowing reviews in goodreads written in Portuguese and then those more so-so reviews written in English. Unlike Bracher’s I Didn’t Know, I think it’s fair to say that #fagundestelles seemed more preoccupied with reaching out to her compatriots with a first hand account of #women under the brutal #braziliandictatorship . And absolutely nothing wrong with that! I’m still making a note to read other books by Fagundes #telles next year. #recommended #brazilianliterature #brazilianliteratureseries #saopaulo #sãopaulo #dalkeyarchive #camoesprize #prémiocamões
