#thehousemaid by #ammadarko is brief yet engrossing. In a little over hundred pages, #darkomanages to make you laugh, question, furious and challenge you. It’s a bit slow at the beginning, for my taste. However, once it picks up, the story becomes captivating to say the least. The fact that Darko manages to create such palpable characters in such a tiny book is a testament to her outstanding storytelling. There are also aspects related to #ghanaianculture as well as socio-economic factors that make the story even more enticing. It’s definitely a window into a universal problem or multiple problems viewed through the prism of a particular culture, region. At times, it might feel like something you’ve read before. You read this book because of Darko and the excellent way she has with #tellingstories . But it’s also a message which should be repeated over and over again. My only criticism is that perhaps it should have been made longer. #kumasi #Ghanaian#Ghanaianliterature #accra#africanwritersseries#heinemannbooks#movingtothebigcity #housemaids#ruralghana #ghana #westafrican#whoisthewitch #adaptingtocitylife#deception
