This #book is really a process. Officially it took me 3 months to read even though some days it felt longer and others shorter. But who cares about this? As #hanscastorp #settembrini and #joachim quickly found out there’s no point in keeping track of time at the #sanatorium in the #swissalps The plot and its unfolding are magnificent and captivating. Even if you don’t get half of the #philosophical conversations, #mannmasterfully creates a world of intrigues and twists which will keep you hooked until the end. However this is a book about the battles of ideas in an #european continent plagued and assailed by #populism#fascism and #antisemitism The similarities and parallels with our current state of affairs are #eerie to say the least.
