How about #womenwriters writing books with a main male character or stories with mostly, if not all male characters? #margaritaliberaki does exactly that here in #theotheralexander . Not only we have male and a couple (one?) female characters, we also have their #alteregos . #liberaki reminded me of both #saramago and #Dostoyevskywho also wrote about a #doublecharacter. We are all so afraid to admit our own vulnerabilities and excesses that we’d rather imagine those thoughts and actions are the creation of someone else. This someone else entity looks exactly like us, talks like us, knows all the places and people we know, lives in our house and sleeps in our bed… This deeply #existentialistand to some extent #absurd tale gets the #greektragedy treatment. Liberaki plays masterfully with flashbacks to the recent #greekcivilwar in the novel as well as a #greek past plagued with #mythological family betrayals and forbidden passions. Despite what the #noondaypress says on its cover, I’m not so sure I loved the intermingling of the stories as much as #albertcamus . But who am I to compare myself to Camus anyway?!?!? Seriously… However, I did thoroughly enjoyed the existentialist innuendos and the #poetic text. #greekliterature#saronicgulf #lautrealexandre#Σαρωνικός_ κόλπος #Μαργαρίτα_Λυμπεράκη #Λυμπεράκη #libéraki
