The last review of my series of books taking place in #africa I know some of my friends might disagree with me. But I think #vladislavic is a great contemporary #southafrican voice. This ain’t an easy read though and he doesn’t aim to do so either. Radical changes are happening all around #joburg and the main character only cares about one thing: proofreading. I found the #grumpy#sarcastic and #cynical character closer to other times and eras. The problem is to decide whether he’s ahead of the curve or behind times. He can’t decide either and quite frankly he doesn’t care. Armed with his favorite #oxforddictionary he knows he’s right. Overall I think Vladislavic’s profane and poignant prose is SO needed against narratives which become sacrosanct and nobody knows why.
