#thesailmakersdaughter by #stephaniejohnson was at times interesting and at other times disconnected or predictable. The best part of the book resides in its diversity of locations and eras. I’m glad #johnson forces the reader to consider the existence and importance of other islands and places in #fiji besides #vitilevu or #suva . Johnson also aims to transport the reader to the times of the so-called #spanishflu and world wars in 1918 as well as other significant events in the #archipelago ‘s history. #fijians , #indofijians as well as Europeans, all are present in the book at different intervals and definitely enrich the plot. The downsize here is the story itself. As I said before, it felt repetitive, predictable and flat to me. I guess that’s ok at the end. It allowed me to pay even more attention to the #historical part of the #historicalfiction novel. #vanualevu #fijian #melanesia #readoceania #melanesian #taveuni #stmartinspress
