Inadvertently I chose a #halloween related book to read this month. #thewolfatnumber4 has some weird and nightmarish references for sure. However if you read this #debutnovel , you quickly realize that #ayotamakloegarr aimed for so much more than that, much more than the appearances. Fighting against the first impressions and people’s opinions of them is what literally brings together the seemingly disparate two main characters. At first, this feels like a reversed-Lolita in the making or an #animalistic critique on our vicious and predatory humanity or a critical angle on the never-ending tragic state of #women in #ghanaian society or all of the above. Clearly #tamaloegarrwanted to portray bits of all these issues and marinate them into one story. To be honest, I’m not so sure about the final product. It was a quick read with surprisingly deep moments which do not hold the entire text together. A good distraction for a few hours which you might not remember after a few days. #itsjustok#ghanaianliterature #capecoast #accra#ohiouniversitypress #gothic#madgenius #ghana #swallowpress#modernafricanwritingseries#familyissues #parentsexpectations
