The #historical geeks or anyone interested in the #silkroad is going to love this book. An intricate and adventure driven story based on the true story of #buddist scrolls found in caves in the area at the beginning of the 20th century. #nyrbbooks does a terrific job at including some introductory information and set the tone and time of the story. If you’re not a history aficionado that’s ok. The story itself is mostly centered in the series of conquests and invasions and also the betrayals and unexpected alliances among the characters. Ultimately it’s a story of our power of imagination and sympathy for civilizations and societies which left us little proof of their existence. This book aims to imagine their daily and aspirations. #tunhuang #inoue #yasushiinoue #chinese#japaneseliterature #aurelstein #invasion #敦煌市 #uyghur #turkic #kazakh #井上靖#tonko #敦煌 #historicalfiction #hsihsia
