#visitation is a story about #returning seen from the perspective of the only common denominator intertwining all these stories: the #house itself. The house is the only one aware of its status as the sole witness of the successive waves of families and their stories. Once a new set of inhabitants move in, the house is the only character able to discern the #returningpart of the story. The characters do not seem to grasp their role in the never ending chain. If all this sounds endless and #ethereal, it’s because it is. #erpenbeckwrites elegantly and effortlessly to gift us with the unequivocal yet seemingly sense of the passing of the time from the perspective of our unspoken stories left imprinted on our #homes left behind. Visitation is not my first encounter with the amazing #jennyerpenbeck and I’m sure it won’t be my last.
