I absolutely adored reading #waiting by #gorettikyomuhendo . Sometimes readers expect books about war, #civilwar especially wars in #africa to be particularly gory and macabre. #kyomuhendo skillfully refuses those expectations and instead she gives us a very personal, humane and complicated window into mundane relationships between love and hate, hope and desperation, life and death. This book reminded me of #annefrank, #imrekertész and books depicting #childrenstories , #comingofagestories during the Shoah. Despite the war, the people dying, the hopelessness all around us, there were moments in which we laughed, we shared love, we dared to survive.
