These three #novellasby #shihchiungyu are all absorbing, visceral and #macabre . The 1980s #taiwan they describe is full of war, #violence and despair. Every story seems to be encapsulating a lot of frustration, conflict, anger and about to burst it all out. The simmering forces are latent under the seemingly detachment of everyone in the story. The sense of doom and inevitable oblivion never goes away and also the author never wants it to go away. Trigger warning, the author is very explicit in her descriptions of violence. To me, it all felt as her own cathartic moment of writing and expressing her own pain and frustration.
