If you spend just a few minutes searching online, you learn very quickly that #jangjungil is both an #outsider and a #rebel personally and in the Korean literary circles. And those two characteristics transpire vivid enough in #whenadamopenshiseyes Jang Jung-il wants to provoke and shock #koreansociety and its obsession with perfection, passivity and complacency. His characters are purposely alienated from this single minded society. They want to explore sex, drugs, emotions and experiences with the entire menu of consequences. At the end the book feels a lot less #hedonistic that you would expect. There’s an overall mature sense of #debauchery if that makes any sense at all.
