When the edelweiss flowers flourish by Begenas Sartov

This has got to be the weirdest book I’ve read in a very long time. It has #aliens #shamans#politicalactivism #ecologicaldisaster a few #goats and a #lovestory . All of this taking place across the entire country of #kyrgyzstan almost in a #roadtrip kind of way through the #tianshan mountains and its valleys. Apparently #begenassartov did manage to penetrate the #soviet #literary circles of the 1960s and even met with #cosmonauts when doing research for this story. Overall the story feels buried under an oppressing amount of unconnected twists. But my guess is that the work of an outstanding translator and publisher can make wonders for this book. @nyrbooks or @archipelagobooks or @thenewpress or another cool publishing should take it up. With some annotated history and a better translation, we could have a jewel here. It reminded me of other similar great #sciencefiction stories taking place in the same area: #thedaylastsmorethanahundredyears by #chingizaitmatov who was #kyrgyzhimself as well and #soul by the great #andreyplatonov . #kyrgyzliterature#bishkek #tashbulak #бишке́к#whentheedelweissflowersflourish
